The UK government has announced restrictions on meat, dairy and animal products for human consumption being brought into the UK.
As of Saturday 12th April 2025, the UK government has announced; that due to animal disease outbreaks (including foot and mouth disease), they have placed restrictions on meat, dairy and animal products for human consumption brought into the United Kingdom from the European Union.
There are also temporary restrictions on animal products not for human consumption.
You cannot bring in food from other countries on a connecting flight.
You cannot bring in any of the following:
- Pork
- Beef
- Lamb
- Mutton
- Goat
- Venison
or any other products made from these meats, for example: Sausages, Salami, Prosciutto or Mortadella.
You also cannot bring the following into the country:
- Milk and dairy products like butter, cheese or yoghurt.
You can bring in up to 2kg per person of powdered infant milk, infant food, or special food needed for medical reasons. However, you can only bring it in if it does not need to be refrigerated before use, and is in branded, unopened packaging (unless in current use).
Even those attempting to bring sandwiches with offending items such as cheese and ham will be stopped by customs and excise. Cured meats, raw meats and milk are off limits regardless of whether they are packed, packaged or have been bought at duty-free.
The government said: “Those found with these items will need to either surrender them at the border or will have them seized and destroyed.
